Copy of Intramuscular injection technique
Please remember to follow your local policies about the use of gloves and sterile technique.

- Prepare the Injection Site: Spread the skin to ensure firmness and facilitate needle entry.
- Insert the Needle: Insert the needle at a 90° angle (perpendicular) to the skin surface in a swift, dart-like motion.
- Administer the Injection: Inject the contents of the syringe slowly and steadily.
- Remove the Needle: After administering the injection, withdraw the needle smoothly in the same direction as insertion.
- Dispose of Sharps: If available, activate the needle safety device and immediately dispose of the used needle and syringe in a recommended sharps disposal unit.
- Apply Pressure: Apply gentle pressure with a swab over the injection site for several seconds to minimise bleeding and discomfort.
