This course is suitable for anyone that has a duty of care for patients, residents or clients that may need rescue from life threatening situations.

In order to ensure the ongoing delivery of a high quality, safe and effective immunisation programme that achieves high uptake, it is important that all practitioners involved in immunisation have a high level of knowledge and are confident in immunisation policy and procedures.

To gain this, they need to receive comprehensive foundation training, regular updates, supervision and support. This practical training workshop, along with background reading, will align with the National Minimum Standards and Core Curriculum for Immunisation Training for Registered Healthcare Practitioners (2018). It can also be used to update or refresh your knowledge.

Practical workshops:
Vaccination techniques, anaphylaxis and BLS

Section 1 – Context

The first section of this course explains the professional and legal aspects of immunisation, the issue of consent and how to store and safely handle Vaccines. Next the focus is on common complications and emergency treatments associated with vaccination followed by practical demonstration then supervised practice.

Section 2 – Basic Life Support and Anaphylaxis

The next section is Basic Life Support and is designed to give you the knowledge and understanding required to react quickly and appropriately in emergency situations, increasing the safety and quality of care provided. This course will help provide you with the knowledge and skills to administer potentially life-saving help to adults, children and infants. It will also teach you how to assess situations and utilise techniques such as cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), the recovery position and how to react if the client is choking.

In addition, we will explore anaphylaxis, in order to help you to understand more about what anaphylaxis is, what the symptoms of allergies and anaphylaxis are, and what can be done to help a person who goes in to anaphylactic shock, including how to administer rescue medication and ultimately save their life.

The content for this Basic Life Support course is aligned with the UK Resuscitation council, which can be accessed here.
