This workshop / webinar will give nurses, carers and other health and social care staff the knowledge and skills to recognise and manage anaphylaxis as well as perform basic life support safely (adults and paediatrics)
The content is based on the current Resuscitation Council (UK) guidelines and has been verified by Skills for Health as aligning to the UK Core Skills Training Framework. This course has also achieved accreditation from the CPD Certification service.

- Course duration: 1 hour (webinar) 2 hours face-to-face.

Learning outcomes include:
- Understand how to recognise and manage the emergency treatment of anaphylaxis
- Understand basic life support requirements in adults and paediatrics.
- Understand the principles that underpin basic life support in adults and paediatrics.
- Know the circumstances under which resuscitation is performed.
- Know the importance of early intervention.
- Be aware of the different types of cardiopulmonary arrest.
- Be aware of how to manage a choking patient in line with current national guidelines.
- Be aware of the steps to take in order to place a patient in the recovery position.
- Know the role of an automated external defibrillation
- Know how to operate of an automated external defibrillator (AED) safely
Course content includes:
- What is anaphylaxis?
- Recognition of anaphyalxis
- Signs and symptoms
- Common triggers
- Treatment and management: auto injectors and adrenaline ‘packs’
- Role of a First Aider.
- How to maintain a safe environment.
- Perform primary /secondary survey.
- Summoning help.
- Demonstrate actions for choking emergencies (trainer only for webinars).
- Place someone in the recovery position.
- Effectively demonstrate Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) in adults and paediatrics (trainer only for webinars).
- The role of an automated external defibrillation
- The safe operation of an automated external defibrillator
- Demonstrate actions for choking emergencies (trainer only for webinars).
